Yamb - online dice game

Yamb is one of the most difficult dice games. Compared to the more familiar Yahtzee and General makes them look trivial and even childish.

Rules

The game is played with 5 dice. Each turn consists of maximum 3 rolls. On the first roll you should use all 5 dice, while on other 2 rolls you can choose any amount of dice to roll. After third roll, or if you wish earlier, you should select a combination to write down the score you have. After that you make another turn and so on until the result table is filled.

The combinations in the game Yamb are much more than on the similar game General. The score table has 4 or more columns with 12 rows in each.

Rows

  • First 6 rows are simple combinations - "One", "Two", "Three" etc.
  • Next 2 rows are "Max" and "Min", where the object is to score maximum and minimum points from all rolled dice.
  • 9th combination is "Straight" i.e. combination like "1","2","3","4","5" or "2","3","4","5","6".
  • "Full", i.e. combination of 3 equal dice and other 2 equal dice.
  • 11th combination is a "Poker" - 4 equal dice.
  • And the last one "Yamb" - 5 equal.

Columns

The columns in the score table are "Down", "Random", "Up", and "Announce". The game with 6 and more columns has also and "From top and from bottom", "From the middle". The game with 8 columns consist of those 6 columns plus "Jump one", "Late announce".

  • Combination in the column "Down" must be filled one after another. To score "Two" you must be scored "One" and so on.
  • In the column "Up" the direction is contrariwise, i.e from bottom to the top.
  • In "Random" column you can score in random order.
  • In "Announce" column you can score only if on the first roll you announce for wich combination you will play. If you bid on some combination you should score there no matter how many points you got.
  • "From top and from bottom" - the column which combines columns "Down" and "Up".
  • "From the middle" - the score are from "Max" to top, and from "Min" to bottom.
  • "Jump one" - odd combinations are scored from top to bottom, even combination from bottom to the top.
  • "Late announce" - same like in column 4, but you can make your announce after 2nd roll.

Results

For your convenience the table has 3 subtotal rows which are for the points for the combinations on top of them.

  • "Simple combinations" - the sum of all "One" or "Two" etc. If the sum of all first 6 rows are more than 60 - you will be awarded with 30 bonus points, if the sum is more than 70 - 40 points bonus, 50 bonus points if the sum is more than 80 and so on.
  • "Max" - the sum of all 5 dice. "Min" - the sum of all 5 dice. The "Max" and "Min" are not counted directly in the total score. There is a rule: the points you get for "Max" minus the points for "Min" multiplied by the points for the first combination ("One").
  • "Straight" - 35 point, if you have from 1 to 5, or 40 point for 2 to 6.
  • "Full" - the sum for all 5 dice plus 30 bonus points.
  • "Poker" - the sum of the 4 equal dice + 40 bonus points.
  • "Yamb" - the sum of all 5 dice + 50 bonus points.

Good luck!
